Fibro Scan (Liver Elastography)

Fibro Scan (Liver Elastography)

Fibro Scan at SSRM Diagnostic

Fibro Scan (Liver Elastography) is a non-invasive, advanced diagnostic test used to assess the health of the liver by measuring liver stiffness and fat accumulation. It plays a crucial role in detecting and monitoring liver conditions such as Fatty Liver Disease, Liver Fibrosis, Cirrhosis, and viral hepatitis. Unlike traditional liver biopsy, Fibro Scan is painless, quick, and does not require any needles or incisions, making it a safer and more comfortable alternative for patients.

During the procedure, the patient lies on their back while a trained technician places a small probe on the skin over the liver area. The device emits painless vibrations and ultrasound waves to measure how quickly they pass through the liver tissue - this helps determine liver stiffness (an indicator of fibrosis) and Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) scores, which reflect fat content in the liver. The entire test typically takes about 10-15 minutes, and results are available immediately.

Fibro Scan is especially recommended for individuals with risk factors such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, excessive alcohol consumption, or a history of liver disease. It is also widely used for routine monitoring in patients already diagnosed with liver conditions to track disease progression or response to treatment. Early detection through Fibro Scan enables timely lifestyle changes, medical management, and prevention of complications, ensuring better liver health and overall well-being.
